The Master of Music in String Performance & Pedagogy is tailored for dedicated string performers committed to refining their teaching techniques. Featuring an exceptional faculty of accomplished musicians and abundant performance opportunities, the School of Music's String Program prepares students for successful careers as professional string players. At undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels, string students receive guidance from renowned faculty, including Utah Symphony members and other elite ensemble performers. With around 80 students and 18 esteemed faculty, the String Program fosters a competitive yet intimate learning atmosphere. The curriculum covers all aspects of professional music training, from individual instrument instruction to rigorous orchestral and chamber music studies. Chamber music performance is a cornerstone of the program. Through frequent masterclasses and performances in cutting-edge facilities and other venues, students gain comprehensive experience in both large and small ensemble settings. The program features three prestigious audition-based chamber groups: the Graduate String Quartet, along with the undergraduate Mount Olympus and O.C. Tanner Honors Quartets.
