The Master of Music (MM) is a two-year graduate program offering 34-36 credit hours in piano, collaborative piano, or organ studies. The curriculum includes private instruction, research methods, music history, teaching techniques, advanced theory, and elective courses. Students must present two to three recitals. Collaborative piano majors must demonstrate foreign language competency. As the School of Music's largest department, comprising 18% of enrollment, the Piano Area trains professionals for solo, ensemble, and collaborative performance careers, as well as teaching positions. The distinguished faculty, including seven Steinway Artists, provides comprehensive training for performance careers. Recent student achievements include top awards at the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, Seattle International Piano Competition, MTNA Piano Competition, and Liszt-Garrison International Piano Competition.
