The School of Music's conducting curriculum delivers specialized education to these advanced students, equipping them with professional-level skills for leading choral or instrumental groups. Beyond one-on-one conducting instruction and mentorship, participants complete a comprehensive series of advanced courses covering ensemble repertoire, concert programming, music theory, historical context, performance traditions, vocal articulation or instrumental methods, and teaching strategies. This customized academic path gives students the profound expertise required for professional conducting careers or university teaching positions. With access to three orchestras, three major choruses, two concert bands, plus various smaller ensembles, conducting students gain substantial podium experience, sometimes serving as assistant or apprentice conductors for key performances.
