This program focuses on integrating social, built, and natural systems to develop vibrant, sustainable communities and functional, aesthetically pleasing living spaces. Ecological planning adopts a multidisciplinary perspective, acknowledging how architecture, natural sciences, and social sciences collectively shape human settlements as intricate social-ecological networks. Learners acquire skills to synthesize various expertise for nature-conscious planning and design. At the University, students evolve into influential urban planners and designers while helping shape Utah's progressive future. The accredited Master of City and Metropolitan Planning (MCMP) equips graduates to excel in directing the evolution of urban and regional landscapes. Foundational coursework highlights ecological resilience, intelligent growth, and equitable development through clear communication, teamwork, and creative problem-solving. Combining essential competencies with specialized tracks, the program readies students for leadership positions in government agencies across all levels, private consultancies, and non-profit sectors. Cross-disciplinary collaboration with non-planning fields is actively promoted. The program also includes hands-on community planning workshops and a culminating professional project.
