Environmental, science, and health communication examines how people, groups, and societies share information about ecological, scientific, and medical topics through words, visuals, and actions. We maintain that communication about these critical subjects influences societal norms, understanding, decision-making, behaviors, and ultimately impacts both human wellbeing and environmental health. These discussions occur through diverse channels including personal interactions, media representations, organizational messaging, institutional frameworks, and consumer choices. Our program explores how communication methods across different environments can face limitations while also driving transformation. Recent faculty research has investigated topics like the impact of public health messaging, indigenous opposition to toxic waste disposal, eco-friendly practices, historical media coverage of atomic experiments, approaches of Chinese environmental organizations, narratives around weight issues, and media portrayal of cancer-related information.
