The University of Utah's APA-accredited1 Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology adheres to a clinical science2 approach, emphasizing rigorous training in applying scientific methods to both research and practical aspects of clinical psychology. Our program focuses on delivering comprehensive education in empirical research and clinically relevant scientific practices. To achieve this, we leverage the diverse expertise of our clinical faculty, collaborate with other departments, and partner with exceptional training facilities both on and off campus.
Ideal candidates for our program are those passionate about research and planning to incorporate it substantially into their professional futures. We expose students to multiple evidence-based theoretical perspectives while allowing significant customization of their academic path, including interdisciplinary opportunities. Despite this flexibility, students must strategically choose electives, clinical placements, and research projects to cultivate a strong professional identity. Alongside foundational training in adult psychopathology, students can pursue specialized tracks in Clinical Child and Family, Clinical Health/Behavioral Medicine, Clinical Neuropsychology, or participate in the Human Sexuality interest group.
