We recommend all graduate students choose a research advisor and initiate thesis work by the conclusion of their second semester. Our adaptable graduate curriculum accommodates each student's individual academic goals, including opportunities for interdisciplinary projects with multiple faculty members.
By the start of their third year, students must successfully complete an informal oral assessment demonstrating substantial progress in their Ph.D. research design and implementation. Additionally, students must present a departmental seminar. The typical Ph.D. program duration is 4-5 years, culminating in an oral defense of the candidate's thesis documenting their original research contributions.
