The Percussion Area is renowned for its creative approach and outstanding achievements, offering comprehensive training in percussive arts. Alumni have secured roles in professional orchestras, studio work, military bands, academic positions, public schools, and careers as freelance composers, audio engineers, and touring musicians, demonstrating the program's effectiveness in shaping successful percussion professionals.
The BMUS in Instrumental Performance is a four-year, 125-credit program that includes core studies (private instruction, music theory, keyboard skills, conducting, music history, ensemble participation, and supplementary music courses) alongside the University of Utah's General Education and Bachelor's Degree Requirements. Completion involves presenting a senior recital.
The DMA program spans three years and 59 credit hours, covering private lessons, large ensemble participation, music history and literature, advanced theory, pedagogy, performance practice, and interdisciplinary coursework. Candidates must submit a dissertation and perform four recitals.
