The American Kinesiology Association (AKA) describes Kinesiology as: the scholarly field focused on examining physical activity and its effects on well-being, society, and life satisfaction. At its core, kinesiology explores the mechanics of human motion. Researchers in this discipline conduct studies to enhance physical performance, health outcomes, and overall vitality across diverse populations. As a University of Utah kinesiology student, you'll analyze bodily movement and exercise physiology, equipping you with knowledge to reduce injury risks and combat long-term illnesses. The curriculum provides three specialization options - Exercise Science, Fitness and Wellness Specialist, or Kinesiology Teaching - enabling learners to pursue the path aligning with their aspirations and abilities. All students gain foundational kinesiology knowledge and opportunities to apply their learning through community engagement or research initiatives. Since the Kinesiology BS and Exercise Science BS are not vocational programs, those choosing the Health and Wellness Specialist concentration typically continue to advanced studies after earning their undergraduate degree.
