The American Kinesiology Association (AKA) describes Kinesiology as: an academic field focused on examining physical activity and its effects on well-being, society, and life quality. In essence, kinesiology explores the mechanics of human motion. Researchers in this discipline conduct studies to enhance physical performance, health, and overall wellness across diverse populations. As a University of Utah kinesiology student, you'll analyze bodily movement and exercise mechanics, equipping you with knowledge to reduce injury risks and combat chronic illnesses. The curriculum provides three specialization tracks—Exercise Science, Fitness and Wellness Specialist, or Kinesiology Teaching—enabling students to tailor their education to personal aspirations. All students gain foundational kinesiology knowledge and opportunities to apply their learning through community engagement or research initiatives.
