Urban Ecology is a multidisciplinary field that examines the connections between social, environmental, and economic systems, aiming to improve the resilience and sustainability of communities. The University of Utah's Urban Ecology program addresses challenges and possibilities in urban, suburban, and rural areas, including environmental stewardship, conservation of delicate ecosystems, leisure activities, tourism, public land use planning, population expansion, regional transit, energy generation, and urban spread. As an Urban Ecology student, you'll study subjects like urban ecosystems, planning methodologies, fieldwork, economics, legal frameworks, and social equity, with optional courses covering green spaces, eco-friendly growth, community engagement, and urban themes in literature. During your final year, you'll complete a practical internship and tackle an actual planning challenge through the Ecological Planning Workshop.
