The Spanish Teaching major is designed for students passionate about Spanish language and aspiring to become educators. This program entails completing 33-36 credit hours, covering Spanish Literature and Culture alongside teaching methods and linguistics coursework. Candidates must achieve advanced Spanish proficiency, verified through a departmental Oral Spanish Proficiency Assessment during their final program stage. To obtain a Utah teaching license, majors must also enroll in the Secondary Education Licensure Program through the Urban Institute of Teacher Education.
Career Paths
Graduates will qualify for educational roles including Dual Language Immersion (DLI) programs or Spanish instruction in K-12 settings. Pursuing graduate studies opens doors to higher education positions such as college instructor, lecturer, or professor.
