A bachelor's degree in Reading with elementary education certification prepares you to teach all subjects in grades K-5 or qualify for developmental/remedial reading instruction after meeting endorsement requirements. This comprehensive program blends academic coursework, professional preparation, and hands-on classroom experiences in local schools. Graduates earn both a bachelor's degree and faculty endorsement for Michigan's Elementary Standard Certificate. Following recent restructuring by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE), which established six grade bands, CEHHS has submitted program proposals for Birth-Kindergarten (BK), Pre-K through Grade 3 (Pre-K3), and Grades 3-6 certification pathways.

All freshmen must submit official transcripts for all years of secondary school work completed (U.S. and abroad). If your secondary school work has been completed in a country which has national standardized examinations, you must also submit official certificates showing results of these examinations (O or A levels, Baccalaureate, Standard X and XII, etc.). Trend of grades and mix of academic courses will be considered. Students must successfully complete their secondary school program before enrollment at UM-Dearborn.
