The Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art equips students to evolve as modern visual artists. Using a conservatory model, participants gain essential skills to perfect technical and formal abilities, deepen their grasp of form and meaning, explore creative solutions, craft refined artistic expressions, and participate in professional endeavors. Additional studies in critical evaluation, research techniques, and current theory offer the framework for synthesizing these components into a comprehensive understanding of the field's philosophy, aesthetics, and practical applications.
Acceptance into the MFA program requires a positive recommendation by a faculty review committee, which meets at the time of the candidate’s MA thesis exhibition. The committee reviews the student’s progress upon the completion of 30 graduate hours taken within the MA in Art with an emphasis in Studio Art program. The committee will recommend the candidate continue with the Studio Art MFA coordinated degree program or finalize studies at the University with a completed MA degree.
