The MA in Art degree offers two specialization tracks: Art History or Studio Art. Applicants must meet the specific admission and degree criteria for their selected concentration. The Art History specialization cultivates experts with broad knowledge spanning ancient to contemporary art, while fostering deep expertise in a chosen research area. Through coursework, students will: critically evaluate artworks; assess research methodologies; combine historical context, formal analysis, and modern scholarship to produce original research; develop analytical writing skills about art; and present their scholarly findings. Candidates can opt for either a thesis or comprehensive examination. A foreign language proficiency is mandatory, which must be satisfied during the program if not completed before enrollment. Depending on the research focus, some specializations may require foreign language research capabilities. The program offers practical experience through museum internships, teaching assistantships, and exhibition curation opportunities, providing valuable preparation for diverse art-related careers. This Art History M.A. track equips graduates for advanced academic study or professional paths in education, museums, art auctions, appraisal, art journalism, or arts administration.
