The MS in Mathematics program provides specialized tracks in diverse fields such as Mathematical Biology, Computational Mathematics, Data Analytics, Differential Equations, Model Theory and Foundations, Operator Theory, Optimal Control, Post-Quantum Cryptography, Mathematical Physics, Quantum Theory, and Scientific Computing with Numerical Analysis. The Mathematics Department maintains a strong research focus, with faculty projects supported by prestigious grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institutes of Health (NIH), as well as Fulbright and Alfred P. Sloan Foundation fellowships.
The Department of Mathematics grants Master of Science degrees in three distinct programs: Applied Mathematics-Industrial Mathematics, Mathematics, and Mathematics Education.
San Antonio's sole graduate program of its kind, the Mathematics Education concentration delivers robust mathematical training for secondary and collegiate educators, along with exposure to mathematics education research. This program qualifies graduates to instruct dual-credit or college-level courses while providing mathematics education coursework that bridges advanced mathematics with K-12 teaching needs (including elementary mathematics coordinators and middle/high school instructors). All mandatory courses are scheduled during evenings, weekends, or summers to accommodate working educators. Graduates pursue careers in public/private secondary education, community college/university instruction, educational research, and consulting roles.
