The Master of Fine Arts represents the highest academic achievement in studio art. This curriculum focuses on blending creative concepts with formal artistic techniques and art history perspectives. UTSA holds accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. The MFA program aims to deliver advanced artistic training for careers as professional artists, educators, or arts professionals. With intentionally limited enrollment, students benefit from close faculty mentorship and a tailored educational approach. UTSA's art faculty maintain impressive exhibition histories with works in prominent museum collections. Students experiment with diverse media and techniques, supported by comprehensive faculty guidance and state-of-the-art facilities.
The M.F.A. in Art stands as the premier graduate qualification for studio artists. UTSA maintains accreditation through the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. This program emphasizes the integration of conceptual thinking with technical execution and historical context. The degree prepares graduates for professional artistic practice, academic positions, or arts-related careers. M.F.A. candidates can specialize in various disciplines such as ceramics, painting/drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and digital media.
The printmaking studio spans approximately 36,000 square feet, featuring three Takach lithography presses, two Charles Brand etching presses, one American French Tool (4070) etching press, and a Challenge letterpress. The stone collection includes 50-60 lithographic stones. The dedicated acid room contains dual sinks for zinc and copper plate processing. Each etching station has its own heating plate and inking surface, with a separate area housing a large aquatint box.
