The Master of Arts in Literacy Education program equips students with theoretical foundations, research methodologies, and practical experiences for teaching reading and writing. This program approaches reading as an integrated linguistic, cognitive, and socio-cultural activity, closely connected to other language skills like listening and speaking, while placing special focus on writing and its developmental process. Participants can specialize in either instructional methods or research approaches.
This graduate program offers multiple concentration areas, such as Writing Pedagogy, Reading Education, Academic Research, and Literacy Administration. Our distinguished faculty researchers provide exceptional mentorship, helping students advance their professional goals. The program maintains a perfect success rate on the Reading Specialist certification exam and maintains a partnership with the San Antonio Writing Project.
The instructional track specifically serves classroom educators and fulfills the qualifications needed for reading specialist certification.
