The Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Health provides specialized education in public health nutrition, program development, health promotion, and preventive care. This growing field equips graduates for careers in healthcare institutions, educational settings, community initiatives, charitable organizations, food sector companies, or as preparation for graduate studies. Preparing HCAP students for professional success remains our foremost commitment. The HCAP program features an internship coordinator who partners with organizations to arrange practical experiences and career guidance. HCAP students have collectively completed more than 140,000 internship hours. The curriculum incorporates hands-on learning through research projects, internships, and practical fieldwork. The HCAP Student Success Center supplements classroom instruction with career preparation and leadership training.
The 120-credit Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Health program readies graduates for foundational roles in public health nutrition across government agencies, schools, community groups, non-profit organizations, and food-related businesses. This degree also serves as excellent preparation for medical school prerequisites or advanced studies in nutrition, public health, healthcare fields, and biomedical sciences. Prospective health profession applicants should schedule meetings with their academic advisors and connect with the UTSA Health Professions Office.
This specialization examines how food systems influence wellbeing. Participants will master the fundamentals of nutritious, sustainable eating and food production, develop advocacy skills for nutrition access and environmental responsibility, and earn a Texas Food Handler Certificate - a stepping stone to becoming a Certified Dietary Manager.
