The Modern Languages and Literatures Department features a Spanish major focused on advanced cultural, literary, and linguistic studies, along with a Modern Language Studies major for comprehensive cultural exploration. Students can complement their studies with minors in French, German, Russian, Spanish, Comparative Literature, East Asian Studies, Foreign Languages (including Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Korean), and Linguistics. These programs enhance language proficiency, cultural literacy, and analytical skills through specialized coursework in language acquisition, comparative humanities, and linguistic theory. The department strongly recommends international study experiences and also provides majors in Linguistics in the Local and Global Community, plus Media Studies courses that apply humanities scholarship to contemporary communication contexts.
