UTEP's Master of Social Work stands out as the sole program in the country specializing in Border Social Work. The curriculum equips students to tackle diverse social and health challenges facing border communities, from child welfare and domestic violence to substance abuse and immigration matters. This MSW program develops professionals for high-level social work practice and leadership roles, with a specialized focus on the Border Region. Graduates gain skills to serve families and communities throughout the Paso del Norte area and other border regions. After finishing the program, graduates qualify to take the national LMSW licensing examination.

Qualification Requirements
The MSW Program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Students considered for admission to the Master of Social Work program must meet the following criteria:
An earned Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a recognized regional or international accrediting body
A minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.0
An undergraduate course in statistics (within the past 5 years from point of admission with a grade of C or better)
An undergraduate course in general biology, anatomy or physiology (grade of C or better

Minimum score 550 on the paper-based (pBT) TOEFL. Some programs require 600 or better. Minimum score of 79 on the internet-based test (iBT), and minimum of 6.5 on IELTS.
