This cross-disciplinary program equips students with skills to utilize contemporary mathematical modeling and computer simulation techniques for addressing intricate challenges in science and engineering. Graduates will become proficient in evaluating computational models' accuracy and numerical methods' dependability. The University of Texas at El Paso provides doctoral (PhD) and master's (MS) degree programs in Computational Science (CPS), blending computer science, mathematics, and various scientific and engineering fields from multiple departments within the Colleges of Science, Engineering, and Health Sciences. This integration creates a comprehensive knowledge foundation for tackling complex systems where computing is essential. CPS students gain expertise in mathematical modeling, algorithm development, computer simulations, scientific visualization, big data analysis, and parallel/distributed high-performance computing.

Qualification Requirements

Bachelors or master's degree in any field of mathematics, science, or engineering from an accredited institution in the United States, or proof of equivalent education in a foreign institution,
Demonstration of academic achievement and potential as indicated by the results of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and upper-level undergraduate and/or graduate coursework,
Applicants from countries where English is not the first language are required to demonstrate English proficiency.

If you did not attend high school in the United States and your most recent institution of learning was not located in an English-speaking country, UTEP requires you to provide evidence of English-language proficiency. Minimum score 550 on the paper-based (pBT) TOEFL. Some programs require 600 or better. Minimum score of 79 on the internet-based test (iBT), and minimum of 6.5 on IELTS.
