UTEP's Master of Rehabilitation Counseling program prepares students to assist individuals of all ages with various disabilities—mental, physical, emotional, cognitive, or developmental—in enhancing their quality of life. Through a combination of academic instruction, hands-on training, and extracurricular activities, graduates gain comprehensive knowledge of rehabilitation counseling principles and practices. This 60-credit graduate program emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical skills in disability management, vocational rehabilitation, and related fields. Students learn essential techniques including vocational evaluation, career guidance, job placement strategies, and disability accommodation. Upon completion, graduates qualify to take the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor Exam administered by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification. Rehabilitation counseling professionals are in high demand across El Paso, Texas, and nationwide, with employment opportunities at organizations like the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, Veterans Affairs, CIGNA, and other service providers. The curriculum fulfills the educational prerequisites for Texas Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) certification.
