This program equips students, regardless of prior educational experience, with essential competencies to become educators, instructional mentors, and administrators dedicated to supporting and championing learners with diverse disabilities. Participants are required to undertake research and create a project addressing the educational requirements of disabled students within their community or school settings. The Department of Counseling, Special Education, and Educational Psychology provides a 30-credit Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Special Education. Tailored for working education professionals (both certified and non-certified), this graduate program emphasizes instruction for students with varying disabilities. While the program doesn't grant teaching certification, candidates can pair the M.Ed. in Special Education with the Alternative Certification Program (ACP) to simultaneously earn their degree and Texas teaching license.
