The Doctor of Physical Therapy program at UTEP trains exceptional practitioners to deliver culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate healthcare services in the U.S.-Mexico border area and other regions. Alumni of this program focus on patient-focused treatment, research-backed methods, community wellness, continuous education, and progressing the field of physical therapy. As healthcare professionals, physical therapists aim to enhance physical capabilities and overall wellbeing through customized care strategies grounded in scientific knowledge. Their work focuses on preserving, restoring, and optimizing movement abilities across all activity levels. The field offers specialized practice areas and continuously evolves to address current and future healthcare demands. Qualification Requirements

Completion of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution
Completed Physical Therapy application by set deadline
Official transcripts from all universities or colleges attended must be sent to PTCAS by set deadline
Completion of 38 hours of required prerequisite courses
A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and a minimum prerequisite coursework GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
Fifty (50) clock hours of documented volunteer or paid work experience in a physical therapy setting under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist reported to PTCAS by set deadline
One recommendation from a physical therapist who supervised the applicant's work or volunteer experience sent to PTCAS by set deadline
Two recommendations from individuals concerning the attributes which qualify the applicant for this program sent to PTCAS by set deadline (See www.ptcas.org for qualifying recommenders)
Applicants from countries where English is not the first language are required to demonstrate English proficiency.

If you did not attend high school in the United States and your most recent institution of learning was not located in an English-speaking country, UTEP requires you to provide evidence of English-language proficiency. Minimum score 550 on the paper-based (pBT) TOEFL. Some programs require 600 or better. Minimum score of 79 on the internet-based test (iBT), and minimum of 6.5 on IELTS.
