The metals curriculum offers students a comprehensive theoretical and hands-on education. Learners explore modern global developments in contemporary metalsmithing through a rich schedule of visiting artists, exhibitions, and field trips. In partnership with the metals department, the Rubin Center organizes biennial exhibitions showcasing works by numerous distinguished artists specializing in jewelry, hollowware, and sculpture. The metals facilities are both extensive and well-appointed. The main studio spans roughly 4,500 square feet. It is outfitted with small manual tools; an excellent assortment of silversmithing hammers and stakes; large electric and manual rolling mills; various shears, benders, and sheet metal rollers; hydraulic die forming capabilities; full casting equipment including computerized kilns, a vulcanizer, wax injector, and centrifugal caster; a dedicated polishing, sanding, and grinding room; aluminum anodizing and plating systems; enameling kilns, a lathe, and additional equipment.
