The Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics Education program prepares graduates with both subject mastery and teaching strategies for instructing math at all grade levels. Created by leading faculty at UT Dallas, the curriculum focuses on STEM educators, offering essential training in cognitive development, research methods, and evaluation techniques.
This graduate program in Mathematics Education emphasizes subject knowledge through two specialized pathways:
The High School/Dual Credit option caters to individuals holding a bachelor's degree in mathematics (or at least a mathematics minor), enhancing both advanced mathematical understanding and teaching methodologies.
The Middle School (4-8) pathway features the Foundations in Mathematics curriculum, strengthening mathematical proficiency and instructional approaches for grades 4 through 8.
Admission to the Graduate Program in Mathematics Education requires, in addition to the general University requirements, an adequate background in mathematics. Applicants for the Upper Elementary/ Middle School Mathematics and Applications track should have mastered pre-calculus and have some experience with mathematical problem solving (e.g., MATH 3307 or equivalent). Applicants for the High School Mathematics track should have at least one year of calculus, a course in linear algebra, and a junior-level course involving rigorous mathematical proof. An interview with an SME faculty member may also be required.
