The Statistics PhD program at The University of Texas at Dallas provides comprehensive coursework and rigorous research training in statistical theory, methods, and their practical applications. Doctoral candidates develop advanced competencies to pursue academic careers or professional roles demanding high-level analytical expertise.
This flexible PhD curriculum adapts to individual student objectives. With faculty advisement, participants design personalized study plans that evolve as research interests crystallize and dissertation topics emerge.
Departmental research spans diverse domains including: probability theory, stochastic modeling, inferential statistics, asymptotic analysis, methodological development, time series forecasting, Bayesian approaches, robust multivariate techniques, nonparametric methods, curve estimation, sequential analysis, biostatistics, statistical genetics, and computational biology.
The minimum requirement for admission to any doctoral program is an appropriate earned UT Dallas master's degree or its equivalent, with an average of at least B+. Applicants currently enrolled in post baccalaureate study may be admitted on the condition that official documentation confirming the conferral of their master's degree is presented before enrollment at UT Dallas is permitted.
Some departments admit directly to the doctoral program from a bachelor's degree for highly qualified candidates.
GPA: One of the components of a student's academic history which is evaluated when the student is seeking admission to the graduate program is his/her performance on certain standardized tests. Since these tests are designed to indicate only the student's potential for graduate study, they are used in conjunction with other measures of student proficiency, such as GPA (grade point average), etc., in determining the admission status of a potential graduate student. Accordingly, there is no rigid minimum cutoff score for admission to the program.
