Data science is a rapidly evolving field that bridges computer science, mathematics, and statistical analysis. As data collection becomes ubiquitous across devices like smartphones, computers, and smart TVs, the demand grows for skilled professionals capable of implementing algorithms and statistical methods to make sense of large datasets. Beyond simple analysis, data scientists employ machine learning techniques and specialized software to transform raw data into actionable insights that help organizations understand their information.
The Bachelor of Science in Data Science is a collaborative program between the Department of Mathematical Sciences in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the Department of Computer Science in the Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. This degree establishes strong fundamentals in computer science, mathematics, and statistics, culminating in a hands-on capstone project. Graduates are equipped for data science roles across various sectors or for advanced studies in any of the three core disciplines.
