The Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering provides two advanced degree programs in Mechanical Engineering and Operations Research and Industrial Engineering, delivering core knowledge through research-focused instruction across multiple disciplines. The mechanical engineering graduate curriculum aims to cultivate future industry pioneers - creative thinkers who will revolutionize energy systems, material sciences, and information technologies to address societal challenges.
Acoustics represents a multidisciplinary field of study and investigation, encompassing foundational wave theory, ultrasonic applications, marine acoustics, transducer technology, nonlinear sound phenomena, noise management, and environmental sound studies. While primarily rooted in mechanical and electrical engineering, the program involves collaboration with various departments such as civil engineering, aerospace engineering & engineering mechanics, petroleum and geosystems engineering, and physics, with faculty and students from these areas actively contributing.
