The M.A. program caters to University of Michigan students enrolled in other professional or academic programs who would benefit from graduate-level philosophy credentials. Admissions to the philosophy M.A. are typically restricted to these students, with exceptions made only at the discretion of the admissions committee. Those wishing to transition from the M.A. to Ph.D. program must go through the standard application process alongside other candidates, with no preferential treatment given to current M.A. students. Accepted Ph.D. students may petition to have their M.A. coursework count toward doctoral requirements, though this isn't guaranteed.
