The MGPS dual degree program, offered in partnership with the UT School of Information, merges in-depth government and policy studies with specialized training for careers in information-centric institutions like government offices, libraries, educational institutions, museums, and similar settings. This interdisciplinary approach addresses growing demands in public and private sectors for professionals skilled in both policy analysis and modern digital information systems. Designed for efficiency, students can complete both degrees in roughly three years through concurrent coursework. Both degrees are conferred upon finishing all required classes and the professional report component.
Students must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or a comparable degree from a foreign academic institution. A grade point average of at least 3.00 in upper-division (junior- and senior-level) coursework and in any graduate work already completed.
The minimum scores considered acceptable for admission by the Graduate School are:
TOEFL: 79 on the Internet-based test (iBT)
IELTS: An overall band of 6.5 on the Academic Examination
