The Law School and the Institute of Latin American Studies provide a combined degree program that awards two graduate qualifications: the Juris Doctor (JD) and the Master of Arts in Latin American Studies (MALAS). This interdisciplinary program caters to students seeking to explore legal studies alongside Latin American affairs. Those aspiring to careers in government or legal practice with a Latin American specialization would find this program particularly valuable. Following their initial year at the Law School, participants will balance coursework between both programs to fulfill the dual degree requirements within four academic years.
Prospective students must commence the program during the Fall Semester at the Law School, completing all first-year law courses before undertaking any dual degree coursework. The two degrees are conferred together once all program requirements are met. Consequently, participants should carefully plan their academic schedules to ensure both degree components conclude in the same term.
