The Texas McCombs IROM doctoral program prepares aspiring researchers in decision science, information systems, operations management, and statistics.
The Information, Risk, and Operations Management Ph.D. offers four specialized tracks with business applications: Decision Sciences, Information Systems, Operations Management, and Statistics. Participants enjoy considerable freedom to customize their academic journey, choosing courses and dissertation committees from diverse interdisciplinary options. While all students complete foundational courses in their chosen track, they also select electives aligned with their research focus and dissertation writing. Regular collaboration with faculty and peers across disciplines is strongly encouraged. Graduate seminars typically maintain an intimate setting, with class sizes ranging from five to ten students.
Statistics track students concentrate on statistical theory and methodology, particularly applied to business contexts. The curriculum covers both Bayesian and classical inference methods alongside contemporary computational statistics. Many statistics courses are cross-listed with the Department of Statistics and Data Sciences, with the key distinction being this program's concentrated focus on business applications.
