The Early Childhood Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education (ECI/ECSE) doctoral program offers advanced coursework and personalized guidance from leading researchers who perform innovative clinical and translational studies to enhance outcomes for young children with disabilities and their families. This program aims to cultivate upcoming scholars and thought leaders capable of producing impactful research that pushes the field of Early Childhood Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education forward. Typically requiring four years of full-time commitment, the Ph.D. allows students to create customized academic plans with guidance from their faculty advisor and graduate coordinator.
The curriculum covers essential domains with a specialized focus on early childhood special education, autism spectrum disorders, and developmental disabilities. Beyond academic and research requirements, doctoral candidates will undertake dissertation work and engage in professional development opportunities. These may involve mentoring student teachers, presenting at academic conferences, publishing scholarly articles, or teaching undergraduate courses.
Students must have bachelor’s plus a master’s degree from an accredited institution in the U.S. or proof of equivalent training at a foreign institution.
The minimum scores considered acceptable for admission by the Graduate School are:
TOEFL: 79 on the Internet-based test (iBT)
IELTS: An overall band of 6.5 on the Academic Examination
