Water stands as one of humanity's most crucial natural assets and the foundation for all living organisms, though its long-term sustainability remains uncertain. The Hydrology and Water Resources program equips students with the scientific fundamentals governing Earth's water systems, enabling them to address global water challenges. Those specializing in hydrology dedicate their research to our planet's most valuable substance: water. This degree provides environmentally conscious students with geological insights into water movement through underground layers, soil, and bedrock, along with core concepts applicable to diverse ecological issues.
Every student pursuing this specialization will engage in an intensive three-week field course dedicated to hydrological investigations. Participants utilize cutting-edge technology to gather and examine actual environmental samples. These exclusive field experiences are reserved solely for hydrology program enrollees.
Jackson School professors are leading numerous water-related research initiatives directly on university grounds. Undergraduate researchers can collaborate on projects spanning coral reef conservation to flood prediction, from metropolitan water systems to studying how woodlands adapt to dry conditions and forest fires.
