Geology is an interdisciplinary field that combines principles from chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics with core geological studies. This integrated approach is evident in the B.S. General Geology curriculum, designed to build field expertise. The program caters to aspiring professional geologists, educators, and graduate students. While energy companies provide many career paths, graduates also secure positions in government, consulting firms, and service providers supporting energy and mineral sectors. Hands-on fieldwork forms a crucial component of the Jackson School undergraduate program, starting from introductory classes to intensive summer field courses. Unlike other earth science departments that have reduced field programs, we've enhanced ours, adding specialized courses in hydrogeology and marine geology. Students gain global research opportunities while also accessing Texas's exceptional geological formations, among the world's most researched sites. Fieldwork receives strong support from our alumni network, whose contributions fund shorter excursions and help subsidize extended summer field courses for numerous students.
