The Bachelor of Arts in Music is an interdisciplinary undergraduate program where students complete a twelve-hour music concentration alongside twelve hours in a secondary academic discipline outside music. General education requirements may also apply. Often, coursework from a second major, minor, or certificate program can fulfill the secondary field requirement. B.A. in Music candidates must choose one of the specified concentrations or emphases. Admission to specialized tracks like music composition, musicology-ethnomusicology, music and media, or music and health requires formal approval. Students not pursuing these specialized paths should review the guidelines for the Emphasis in Music with a Self-Directed Study concentration.
This program suits students wanting to deeply engage with music literature, historical studies, Western classical traditions, notation systems, or those exploring global music cultures, ethnographic methods, and regional musical practices. It's particularly valuable for students considering advanced studies in these areas.
