The Glass program offers students a chance to investigate glass as an artistic medium through sculptural, conceptual, and functional approaches. Students engage with both traditional and innovative glassworking methods in rigorous coursework. The artist-craftsman's mindset and their connection to materials, ideas, and utility serve as inspiration for creating and critiquing student projects. These assignments are designed to build technical skills, artistic sensibility, and conceptual understanding while motivating students to find their unique voice by experimenting with diverse glass methods and uses.
UTA's glass studios feature cutting-edge facilities with professional-grade equipment for mastering various techniques, including glassblowing, flameworking, fusing/slumping, casting, and fabrication. Small class sizes foster close mentorship with instructors and help students gain confidence when working with unfamiliar materials and processes. The program provides pathways for students to earn a BFA in Art with a Glass specialization or an MFA in Art with a Glass focus.
