The Ceramics program is guided by an exploratory fusion of materials, techniques, and concepts from ceramics and contemporary art. This foundation is supported by a curriculum, facilities, and faculty that foster deep inquiry, accessibility, diverse opportunities, and personal growth. Sculptors, potters, installation artists, and cross-disciplinary creators collaborate in a supportive, collective setting. Emphasizing investigation, experimentation, and creative passion, the ceramics program focuses on technical and formal skill, historical and theoretical knowledge, and a willingness to explore related fields and the broader world.
The ceramics studio is situated at Northsite, a collection of art studios and classrooms nestled among trees along the Willamette River bike path and the abundant plots of the Urban Farm. The ceramics program is a vibrant community of approximately 100 students, serving undergraduates, BFA candidates, and graduate students. Instruction takes place in the main studios, with BFA students sharing workspace. The ceramics program stands out for its emphasis on community and a mutual respect for the uniqueness of the creative journey.
