The studio offers specialized programs in ceramics, drawing, graphic design, installation, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Each discipline is taught by faculty members who are experts in their respective fields. The print studio features a pressroom, classroom, digital lab, darkroom, and a multipurpose area for silkscreen washout and etching baths. Instruction covers stone and plate lithography, silkscreen, relief, intaglio, letterpress, digital techniques, and hybrid digital/manual methods. Introductory courses in silkscreen/lithography and relief/intaglio provide students with foundational knowledge of the four primary graphic techniques. These classes teach students to critically assess prints and use proper artistic terminology. Additionally, students explore the extensive history of print media alongside modern techniques and practices.
At intermediate and advanced levels, students deepen their technical skills and conceptual development through research and material exploration. The program fosters creativity by encouraging dedication, experimentation, and innovative thinking in artistic development.
Printmaking students are encouraged to join Works on Paper, the university's print club. This group helps students learn professional practices such as pricing, selling, installing, and exhibiting artwork. Club exhibitions offer hands-on experience in understanding art's role within a community while preparing students for professional artistic paths and advanced studies.
