The MFA program specializing in Creative Writing offers a blended studio and academic curriculum, enabling students to refine their writing abilities and develop artistically through intensive craft application. Participants engage in writing workshops that provide constructive critiques on poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, examine genre-specific elements in specialized courses, and explore broader theoretical and historical frameworks in Literature and Rhetoric, Writing, and Linguistics classes.
This graduate program concludes with a creative thesis project involving a full-length manuscript of original literary work. While the MFA serves as excellent preparation for aspiring creative writing instructors at all levels and for those pursuing a PhD in English with a Creative Writing focus, the UT Creative Writing Program faculty maintains that the pursuit of literary arts holds inherent worth. Our curriculum primarily caters to students committed to mastering the craft of writing as a lifelong pursuit.
