The Marco Institute is a globally recognized hub dedicated to exploring premodern history and culture, spanning approximately 300 to 1700 C.E. Through our diverse offerings—including lectures, workshops, conferences, faculty and graduate fellowships, a graduate certificate program, Summer Latin courses, and undergraduate degree options—we advance cutting-edge research and education in early historical studies. Our distinguished faculty come from various academic backgrounds, with particular expertise in book history, reading practices, religious/intellectual developments in late antique through Renaissance Europe and the Near East, and medieval/Renaissance epic literature. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, we enrich scholarly discourse at the University of Tennessee, the Knoxville area, and the wider academic community.
