The History Department provides Master of Arts (M.A.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree programs. With an intentionally small cohort of five to eight new students annually, our graduate program ensures personalized attention from faculty. We take pride in delivering exceptional teaching, mentorship, and fostering significant academic development among our graduate scholars.
Our curriculum leverages the department's extensive expertise in 19th and 20th century American history. Faculty members contribute specialized knowledge across various approaches including political/legal history, socio-cultural studies, race and religion, gender in public spheres, international affairs, Western U.S. history, and public history applications. Prospective students can review faculty profiles to discover diverse research specialties and advising opportunities. Additionally, history graduate students frequently collaborate with professors from interdisciplinary programs such as African-American Studies, Environmental Studies, Native American Studies, and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
