The Doctor of Philosophy in Speech and Hearing Science prepares graduates for diverse professional roles such as research positions and academic teaching within specialized fields including speech-language pathology, audiology, speech science, or hearing science. This research-focused program primarily examines typical and atypical speech, language, and hearing processes. Typically, transitioning from the Ph.D. to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program is not allowed. Doctoral candidates must exhibit expertise in their chosen specialization through mastery of: Fundamental speech, hearing, and language mechanisms; Common speech, hearing, and language impairments or variations; Interdisciplinary subjects that enhance understanding of human communication; Methodological competencies in instrumentation and research design for investigating speech and hearing phenomena.
