The Sociology Department provides a PhD program centered on social justice, designed for those aiming for careers in academia, public service, legal fields, and other professional areas. Candidates must complete coursework and develop a dissertation focusing on one of four key disciplines: criminology, critical race & ethnic studies, environmental sociology, or political economy & globalization. Additionally, students must pursue secondary studies in either another core field, social theory, or statistical methods. This curriculum emphasizes critical analysis of social issues through the perspective of power structures. Graduates will emerge with comprehensive knowledge of fundamental sociological theories and research methodologies.
