The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics provides an accelerated Five-Year Bachelor of Science and Master of Science (BS-MS) Program designed for high-achieving students. Participants earn a BS in Agricultural and Resource Economics, specializing in either Food and Agricultural Business or Natural Resource and Environmental Economics, within seven semesters by fulfilling 120 credit hours - including 9 graduate-level credits that apply toward both degrees. Following this, students pursue a thesis-based MS in Agricultural and Resource Economics (choosing between Agricultural Economics or Natural Resource Economics concentrations) over three semesters and one summer, completing 22 additional graduate credits. Conditional admission to the BS-MS Program typically occurs during a student's junior year at The University of Tennessee. The MS component mandates original thesis research, requiring students to begin developing their research project with a thesis committee shortly after their third undergraduate year.
