The Department of Food Science provides an accelerated Five-Year BS/MS degree option for eligible students, combining a Bachelor's in Food Science with a thesis-focused Master's in Food Science. A key feature allows qualified undergraduates to apply up to nine credit hours of approved graduate coursework toward both degrees during their senior year. Applicants must apply for conditional admission by the conclusion of their junior year at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. As the MS program mandates original thesis research, participants must initiate their research projects by the beginning of their senior undergraduate year. Each enrolled student must form a graduate advisory committee of at least three faculty members prior to completing their BS degree requirements.
