Kinesiology is a field of study focused on examining human motion, particularly how physical activity influences health, performance, social dynamics, and overall well-being. Students pursuing a Kinesiology degree gain preparation for diverse careers in health and fitness, as well as for advanced studies in specialized areas like exercise physiology, biomechanics, sports psychology, motor control, and public health research. This major also serves as a foundation for professional programs such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant studies, chiropractic care, and athletic training. First-year students can declare Kinesiology as their major upon enrollment or within their initial two years, while transfer students may enter the program when joining the university. Those aiming for graduate-level health professions should begin planning early, as undergraduate coursework forms the crucial groundwork for future success. While many undergraduates aspire to become doctors, physical therapists, or healthcare providers, they often lack practical understanding of these demanding careers. Given the highly competitive nature of medical and health-related graduate programs, students should thoroughly research their desired profession, including prerequisite coursework, minimum GPA expectations, and additional educational requirements. The Recreation and Sport Management program, with its Sport Management specialization, equips students for careers in the sports sector by combining sport business coursework with a business administration minor, culminating in a hands-on internship experience.
