This program focuses on fundamental sciences, plant and animal biology, and communication skills essential for careers as wildlife or fisheries biologists. Students develop a comprehensive understanding of wildlife and fisheries management challenges while exploring related social, cultural, and ethical considerations.
Through seminar courses and hands-on fieldwork with approved organizations, students gain practical experience in wildlife population management. Nearby state and federal wildlife management areas serve as living laboratories to demonstrate key principles.
The wildlife science track prepares graduates for Associate Wildlife Biologist certification from The Wildlife Society, while the fisheries science option qualifies students for Associate Fisheries Professional certification through the American Fisheries Society. Both pathways lead to career opportunities with state agencies, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, other government bodies, and private sector employers. Those pursuing advanced technical roles or leadership positions should consider graduate-level education.
